Tungkillo Energy Storage

A new energy storage project in Australia

Project Summary

RES is proposing a utility scale battery project approximately 8.5km east of Mount Torrens, in the Mid Murray Council area in South Australia.

The Tungkillo BESS project comprises a single stage energy storage system of up to 270 MW, housed in up to 184 battery containers. It will also contain a substation to connect the BESS to the adjacent ElectraNet operated Tungkillo substation via a short transmission corridor.  If developed, the Tungkillo Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will provide up to 270MW/1480MWh of on demand energy to the state.

In 2022, RES started to reach out to the local community to introduce the Project and seek to understand the impacts and opportunities that may flow from a significant battery project in the region. RES has finalised technical studies covering water, traffic and transport, cultural heritage, hazard, visual, ecology, noise, and social impact, and assessed mitigation and management strategies.
